2,500 year old Healing Modality - Herbal Thai Compress Ritual at Mandarin Oriental Spa
Soothe tired, sore muscles with compresses made of naturally therapeutic ingredients. Embark on a truly relaxing spa escape at the Spa at Mandarin Oriental in Miami. After registering and relaxing in a comfy robe, while sipping juice infused water or a daily special tea, let your mind wonder to your happy place.
Thai was developed by Buddhist monks in Thailand and uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body's energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscles and joint tension and balance the body's energy systems.
I experienced a wonderful Herbal Thai Compression Massage at the spa. My massage therapist, Francesca, who is from Montecarlo, inquired about my overall health and what my expectations were from my massage. Was I looking for something relaxing or to stretch my overworked muscles and re-energize me? My spa suite was beautiful from the warm massage table, a jacuzzi and shower, overlooking the sparkling intercoastal.
The Herbal Thai compresses are made of restorative ingredients such as lemongrass, ginger and peppermint, are steamed and then positioned strategically on key muscles of the body. For almost an hour and a half I was stretched, massaged, soothed and re-energized. Deep muscle therapy helped alleviate the tension built in me. Methodically Francesca applied enough pressure to release taught muscles and then invigorate them for a busy work day ahead. Restore your body to its’ natural balance.
At the end of their (and my) treatment, guests are asked to select which type of tree they would like to be planted to help enrich the Everglades National Park. Guests can chose between a live oak, bald cypress, slash pine or gumbo limbo tree to help preserve and protect Florida’s World Heritage.
The Mandarin Oriental has the only five-star spa in the country.
